Guide for students
Register your courses, ask to change your name, phone or photo, follow your CGPA and results, sit exams online, pay your fees, borrow and reserve library books, apply for a hostel bed and request a transcript - on a computer or a phone.
Who this guide is for
You are a student. Your portal holds your own record: your CGPA and results, your exams, your fees, your hostel place, your library loans and your transcript requests. On a computer everything is under My Studies in the menu on the left. On a phone your main pages are the tabs along the bottom, and the rest is under More.
Before you start
Open your institution's portal and sign in with the email address and password your institution gave you. Select Sign In.
You arrive on your dashboard: My Dashboard in the menu on a computer, the Today tab on a phone.
If your institution sent you a link to set your password, open it, enter a New Password and Confirm Password, then select Set Password.
To sign out on a computer, open the menu with your initials at the top right and select Sign out. On a phone, open More and select Sign out at the bottom.
Use it on your phone
The portal works in your phone's browser, with the same account and pages as on a computer.
Open your institution's portal address in your phone's browser and sign in.
The first time, the portal may offer to install itself: Install app puts it on your home screen, where it opens like any other app. Not now closes the offer. On an iPhone the offer says to tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen.
The bar along the bottom has four tabs: Today (your dashboard), Courses (Course Registration), Results (My Results) and Fees (My Fees), then More.
More opens the rest of My Studies — My Exams, My CGPA, My Transcripts, Hostel Application, My Library Loans — with Appearance (System, Light or Dark), Language (English or Français) and Sign out below it.
The top bar shows your institution's name, the search button and your initials.
When a new version of the portal is ready, a note says A new version is available. Select Reload when you are ready.
Change your name, phone or photo
Your name and photo are part of your student record, so what you change here is sent to the registry first. Your details stay as they are until somebody who manages student records approves them.
On a computer, open the menu with your initials (or your photo) at the top right and select My profile. On a phone, open More and select your name at the top.
Change your First name, Last name or Phone number, and select Send for approval.
To send a new photo, select Add a photo (or Change photo) and choose a JPEG, PNG or WebP image of up to 3 MB. Remove photo asks for your photo to be taken off. If there is no photo button, photo uploads are not set up for your institution.
A Waiting for approval box then shows what you asked for, including the photo you sent. You can send changes again while you wait: they replace what is waiting. To take the request back, select Withdraw request.
When somebody has decided, the box says so. If your request was approved, your new details are on the page, and your new name and photo are on your student record too. Your parents' and guardians' phone numbers do not change. If it was not approved, your details are unchanged, and the box shows the reason if one was given: correct your details and send them again, or ask the registry.
Your email address and password are how you sign in, so they are not changed on this page; Email and password says where to change them. If you sign in through the suite, Change password opens the suite's sign-in page, where you set a new one. If you sign in to this portal directly, ask your institution's administrator for a new sign-in link. To change the email address you sign in with, ask your institution's administrator.
Your dashboard
Your dashboard greets you by name and shows:
Fees balance with Pay now, when you owe fees.
My CGPA, with View Full History to see it semester by semester. Until your first results are published it says you have no CGPA yet.
At an institution that grades on LMD, My standing instead: your average out of 20, your credits, this year's decision and your mention, with a link to your transcript of marks.
Shortcuts to My Results, Course Registration, My Fees, Hostel and Transcripts.
Register your courses
Open Course Registration (the Courses tab on a phone). It shows the current semester and the courses offered to your programme and level.
Core courses are included for you, and so are any courses you failed and have not yet passed, under Courses to retake. Tick the Elective courses you want.
Keep your credit total within the minimum and maximum shown, then select Register courses and confirm.
Courses you have registered are marked Registered. You can come back and add an elective while registration is open; once it has closed, the page says so and the registry can change your courses. If registration is refused, the reason is shown — for example a prerequisite you have not yet passed.
To drop an elective while registration is open, find it under Registered this semester, select Drop and confirm with Drop course. Core courses, courses you are retaking and courses whose results are published cannot be dropped; ask the registry if you need a change after registration closes.
Find a course
To look a course up, search from the top of any page: on a computer select Search or press Ctrl K; on a phone tap the magnifying glass. Type at least two letters of a course code or title. Selecting a course opens Course Registration.
Course materials and handing in work
Open My Courses under My Studies (under More on a phone). The courses you are registered on this semester are listed, with how many materials and assignments each has and how many you still have to hand in.
Select a course to see the materials your lecturer has posted, the course content they have released (on a computer), and the assignments with their due dates.
Each assignment shows Not handed in, Handed in, Handed in late or Marked. To hand in, type your answer, add a link to your work starting with https:// (such as a shared document), or both, and select Hand in.
You can change what you handed in until your lecturer marks it. Once it is Marked you see your score and feedback, and it can no longer be changed.
Check your results and CGPA
Open My Results (the Results tab on a phone).
Choose a Semester. You see its Semester GPA, Cumulative GPA, Credits registered and Credits earned, then each course with its score, grade and points. On a phone each course is one line.
Results appear once your department publishes each semester. Until then the page says so.
Open My CGPA for your cumulative figure, the credits you have earned and your semester history. A semester appears there once all of its results are published.
If your institution grades on LMD
Some institutions grade on LMD (Licence–Master–Doctorat). There, My Results is your transcript of marks (relevé de notes) instead of grades and a CGPA:
At the top: your Average out of 20, your Credits acquired and your Mention once your programme is complete.
Each academic year shows its average, the credits you hold for it and the decision: Year validated, Conditional progression, Repeat the year or In progress, with its mention.
Each semester lists its teaching units with their credits, average and result (Validated, Compensated, Kept from before or Not validated), and under each unit its courses with their coefficient and mark out of 20. A course marked Resit due can be taken in the resit session; after it, the course shows both marks.
A teaching unit you have not validated is listed under the year as one to take again.
Select Print for a copy. If your institution switched to LMD after you started, select Show earlier results (GPA) for the semesters before. On a phone each teaching unit is a card.
Sit an exam
Open My Exams. Each paper that is open to you shows its course, length, marks and closing time, and how many of its attempts you have used, for example Attempts used: 0 of 1.
Select Start, or Continue if you left a sitting of this paper unfinished. Read the instructions, then answer each question. Your answers are saved as you go: if the page reloads, you change device or the connection drops, Continue carries on from what was saved, with the questions in the same order.
The time remaining is shown at the top. When you have finished, select Submit, then Submit again to confirm. Select Keep working to go back instead.
A paper only appears while it is open, and only for courses you are registered for. Once you have used all the attempts it allows, it shows No attempts left. Your lecturer may give each student the questions, and their choices, in a different order.
Your result comes out when your lecturer releases the paper, after every script is marked. A question you leave blank scores 0.
Pay your fees
Open My Fees (the Fees tab on a phone). It shows your Total outstanding and each invoice with its total, the amount paid and the balance.
On an invoice with a balance, select Pay Now.
Choose a payment method and select Continue, then follow the instructions shown.
Select Invoice PDF on an invoice to download, print or share it on WhatsApp, or to email it to your guardian.
To see every payment you have made, select Payment History at the bottom of My Fees. It lists each payment with its date, amount, method, reference and status.
Your own account for fees
Where your institution takes fees by bank transfer through 9PSB, you have an account number of your own for fees. It is the same every time and does not expire, so you can save it in your bank app.
Open My Fees. When you have fees to pay this way, Your fees account shows the Account number, the Bank and the Account name, with what is Still owed.
Transfer any amount to it, from any bank app, whenever you like. You can pay in instalments. Money is applied to your oldest unpaid fees first.
After you transfer, select I have paid, check now. The page says how much has been applied, or that nothing has arrived yet. Transfers can take a few minutes, and the money is applied anyway once it arrives.
Money that arrives when nothing is owed waits, and is applied to your next fees.
Pay Now with 9PSB bank transfer shows the same account, with this invoice's balance.
Apply for a hostel bed
Open Hostel Application.
Under Apply for a bed, optionally choose a Preferred hall and a Preferred room type, and tell the hostel office anything it should know, such as a medical need.
Select Submit application.
The page then shows Your application and its status. If you are on the waitlist, it shows your position. Once you are given a bed, it shows your hall, room and bed.
Request a transcript
Open My Transcripts.
Under Request a Transcript, enter the Purpose and choose the Delivery Type: Electronic (PDF) or Physical (Courier). For a physical copy, enter the Delivery Address.
Select Submit.
Your requests are listed under My Requests with their status. When an electronic transcript is ready, select Download.
Your library loans
Open My Library Loans to see the books you have on loan and their due dates. Overdue loans are marked Overdue. Any Outstanding fines are shown at the top: pay these at the library desk.
Select Renew to keep a book 14 days longer. A loan can be renewed three times, and not while another reader is waiting for the book.
Under Reserve a book, search for a book and select Reserve. The library lends it to you when a copy is free. Your reservations are listed under Waiting for, with Cancel.
Your student wallet
Where your institution offers student wallets, the menu shows My Wallet (on a phone, under More). Anywhere else it is not in the menu.
Open My Wallet. The first time, select Get started, fill in Open your wallet (your Surname, Other names, Bank Verification Number (BVN), Date of birth, Gender and Phone number) and select Open wallet. The details go to the bank to open an account in your name.
Your Account number appears when the bank has set it up. Anyone can pay money into it. The page shows your Available balance; select Refresh balance to update it.
Before you can pay from the wallet, you may be asked to Finish verifying your identity. Select Verify identity, enter your national identification number, attach a Proof of address (a utility bill or bank statement, an image up to 5 MB) and select Submit for verification.
Recent activity lists what came in and went out; select View all for every transaction.
Select Statement for the wallet as the bank records it: the last 90 days, or pick a From and To date (a year at most). Each line shows the date, what it was, the money in (+) or out (−) and the Balance after it.
To pay a bill or buy airtime or data, select Pay a bill. Choose a Category, then a Biller, enter your details and select Verify details. Check who and what you are paying, then select Pay. For a prepaid meter the Token is shown on the receipt: keep it.
Language and appearance
Language: on a computer, select EN or FR at the top of the page. On a phone, open More and choose English or Français. Not every page is translated yet, so some text stays in English.
Appearance: the portal follows your device's light or dark setting. On a computer, the sun or moon button at the top switches it. On a phone, open More and choose System, Light or Dark.
Tips and common questions
My results are not showing. Results appear only after your department publishes them for the semester.
I paid but the invoice still shows a balance. Payments can take a little time to be confirmed. Refresh the page later, and contact the bursary if it does not change.
Where is My Exams on my phone? Under More, with the rest of My Studies.
An employer wants to check my transcript. They can use Verify a transcript on your institution's public website, with the reference printed on the transcript.
Getting help
For help with the portal, contact your institution: the registry for your record and registration, the bursary for fees. The portal has no support chat or ticket desk of its own.
